Come On Our Adventure With Us...

We are off to New Zealand where J.P. will be working at the National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research. The whole family has joined him, so we can have some fun down under. To share this and future adventures we have started this blog. To view a map of our NZ travels, click on this link: Our NZ travel map

Off to New Zealand!

G'day!  The Walshes have an excellent opportunity to go to New Zealand because J.P. will be working as a Visiting Scientist at the National Institute for Water and Atmospheric (NIWA) Research in Wellington (the capital of NZ).  J.P. has been collaborating with NIWA scientists for many years on research examining the development of sedimentarty strata on the seafloor.  The focus area for this research is the Waipaoa River on the northeast coast of the North Island of New Zealand, and the U.S. National Science Foundation has funded the reseach.  You can find out more about the research and oceanographic expeditions at these sites: http://www.ecusstorm.blogspot.com/ (which shows some of our recent trips) and http://www.coastal.geology.ecu.edu/nz/ (an older site that describes some of the work).

This explains why the Walshes are headed to New Zealand.  Because New Zealand is well known as a land of adventure and the Walsh Family are always planning or participating in some crazy activity, we thought this would be an ideal time to start this blog.

As a goal we will try to engage in an adventurous activity every day (especially while in NZ) and will do our best to report on these adventures here.   We hope you enjoy reading about our endeavours, some fun and others failed.  Either way, it should be entertaining to see the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat through eyes and emotions of our family.
